Welcome to the BloonsGuide.com guide to conquering Tree Stump on CHIMPS difficulty in Bloons TD 6!
Best of all: this guide requires only 3 towers and zero micromanagement.
Throughout this guide, you'll learn both how to beat Tree Stump on CHIMPS difficulty and learn a few basic tips and strategies you can use on any map to consistently tackle CHIMPS difficulty elsewhere.
Note: This guide was recorded on BTD6 Patch 40. If you find this guide no longer works, please let us know!
Let's get started.
The Final Tree Stump Build
If you'd like to see the final build now and reverse engineer it yourself, here's a screenshot along with the list of towers used in this guide:
- Sauda (Hero)
- Heli Pilot
- Spike Factory
Early Game & Starting Towers
In classic BloonsGuide.com fashion, our hero for this run will be the hero Sauda.

With a calm fury, Sauda can carve Bloons up with her twin razor-sharp swords.

$5,000
Start by placing Sauda in the location you see in the screenshot:
Sauda is able to solo some of the early rounds for us, so we don't have to take any actions until the end of Round 11.
After Round 11 - Before Round 12
At the end of Round 11, place a Spike Factory at the end of the map and upgrade it to 0 / 0 / 1:
This Spike Factory will later become a Perma-Spike, one of the key towers this run. You'll soon learn why it works so well.
For now, we can AFK until Round 20.
Round 20
During Round 20, upgrade your Spike Factory to 0 / 0 / 3, and set the Targeting Priority to 'Smart.'
Setting the targeting priority to 'Smart' allows us to build up a Long Life Spikes - and later, a Deadly & Perma-Spike - pile at the very end of the map. This allows our other towers the maximum amount of time to damage/pop Bloons before they reach our spikes, conserving our spikes for when we need them most.
Round 26
At the start of Round 26, upgrade your Spike Factory to 2 / 0 / 3, or White Hot Spikes in the top path.
This will help us deal with the Lead Bloons coming on Round 28 (and throughout the rest of the game).
After Round 36 - Before Round 37
After Round 36, place a Heli Pilot and upgrade it to 3 / 2 / 0:
We'll work our way towards Apache Dartship and Apache Prime later in the game.
Tree Stump's track is long and windy, which gives a tower like the Heli Pilot an advantage, since it's able to follow Bloons wherever they are on the map. The Heli has plenty of time to follow and pop Bloons as they wrap around corners on their way to our spikes.
Round 39
During Round 39, upgrade your Spike Factory to 2 / 0 / 4.
Now we can AFK until Round 50.
Round 50
As soon as you have the gold on Round 50, upgrade your Heli Pilot to 4 / 2 / 0.
You may have somewhat of the close call on Round 50 if you don't upgrade the Heli Pilot immediately once you have the gold, so we definitely recommend upgrading as soon as possible.
Round 70
As soon as you have the gold during Round 70, upgrade your Spike Factory to 2 / 0 / 5, or Perma-Spike in the bottom path.
We've written a few times about Perma-Spike's strength on single-lane maps (like in our Monkey Meadow Impoppable Guide), but we'll reiterate here as well:
Perma-Spike is a great upgrade for single-track maps in Patch 40.
There will be times during this run where many Bloons / MOABs make it through Sauda / the Heli Pilot and towards the Perma-Spikes. It's important to place your trust in the Perma-Spikes! Once a generous spike pile has built up, it can handle a ridiculous number of Bloons and MOABS on its own without breaking a sweat.
Note: we recently tested Perma-Spike's power - and when it had built up a nice spike pile, it was able to handle 45 DDTs on its own when buffed by a 4 / 2 / 0 Alchemist.
Now we can AFK until Round 84.
Round 84
Immediately once you have the gold on Round 84, upgrade your Heli Pilot to 5 / 2 / 0, or Apache Prime.
You'll likely gain the correct amount of gold as a big wave of MOABs and Ceramics are pushing towards our Perma-Spikes. Perma-Spike would likely handle these without issue, but the Apache Prime will help clean things up.
Rounds 97, 98, and 100
Since we aren't going to place any more towers this run, we might as well make Sauda attack really fast.
On Round 97, spend the gold to level Sauda to Level 17. Then on Round 98, do the same and level Sauda to Level 18.
Then, on Round 100, level Sauda to Level 19.
The final level on Sauda is probably not necessary, but we'll spend the gold anyway just in case.
And that's it!
